What this tool does
Crops your image to a circle with a transparent PNG background. Lets you drag and zoom to position the subject inside the circle, then shows you live thumbnails at the actual sizes X, Discord, Instagram, and LinkedIn will display your avatar. The preview at 24 × 24 px is what people see next to your name in notifications.

Discord Avatar Display Sizes

Discord displays user avatars at several sizes across the interface. The profile popout shows 80-256 × 80-256 px depending on platform. The server member list shows 32 × 32 px. Chat messages show 40 × 40 px. Mentions and notifications use 24-32 × 24-32 px.

Uploading at the full 512 × 512 ensures the largest version is sharp on profile views, and the smaller resampled sizes downscale cleanly. Anything smaller than 256 × 256 gets upscaled for the profile popout and introduces blur.

Pre-Cropping for Discord vs Letting Discord Crop

Like most platforms, Discord applies the circular crop at display time. Your underlying upload remains a square. Pre-cropping with this tool gives you two benefits: you see the cropped result before uploading, and the PNG you upload already has transparent corners that composite cleanly against Discord's dark and light themes.
