The Android Resolution Landscape

Unlike iPhone where each generation has 2-3 distinct resolutions, Android has dozens. Common resolutions in 2026:

FHD+ (Full HD): 1080 x 2340 (Samsung), 1080 x 2400 (most flagships), 1080 x 2412 (some Xiaomi), 1080 x 2424 (Pixel 9), 1080 x 2436 (some OnePlus).

QHD+ (Quad HD): 1440 x 3088 (Samsung S25), 1440 x 3120 (Samsung Ultra), 1440 x 3200 (some Xiaomi Pro), 1280 x 2856 (Pixel 9 Pro - technically not QHD but very high).

4K (rare): 2160 x 3840 (Sony Xperia 1 series).

The 1080 x 2400 default covers the most common FHD+ phones. For QHD+ phones (Samsung Galaxy Ultra, Sony Xperia Pro), use the device-specific preset pages for native sharpness.

Android Wallpaper Position Quirks

Android handles wallpapers differently from iOS in two ways that matter:

1. Many Android launchers scroll the wallpaper as you swipe between home screen pages. This creates a 'parallax' effect where the wallpaper image appears wider than the screen. If your wallpaper is exactly screen-width (1080 x 2400), the launcher may stretch it horizontally during scroll, distorting your image.

Fix: design at 2-3x screen width (e.g., 3240 x 2400 for 3 home screen pages) so the launcher has wider real estate to scroll through. Or disable wallpaper scrolling in launcher settings.

2. Lock screen wallpapers can differ from home screen wallpapers. Most Android launchers let you set them independently - your home screen wallpaper does not have to be the same as lock screen. Take advantage of this: home screen wallpapers can be optimized for icon visibility (low-contrast, neutral) while lock screen wallpapers can be high-impact visual designs since icons don't compete.
