MacBook wallpapers: 16:10, not 16:9

The detail that trips people up is the aspect ratio. MacBook screens are 16:10, slightly taller than the 16:9 of most external monitors and TVs. A 16:9 wallpaper on a MacBook either leaves a gap or gets cropped top and bottom. A 2880 x 1800 image is exactly 16:10, so it fits edge to edge.

Exact native resolutions vary by model (MacBook Air about 2560 x 1664, 14-inch Pro 3024 x 1964, 16-inch Pro 3456 x 2234), but you do not need a file per model. Design at 2880 x 1800 or larger at 16:10, and macOS downscales it cleanly to whichever MacBook you have. All current Macs also use the wide P3 color gamut, so a P3 or sRGB source both display well; sRGB is the safe, predictable choice.
