iPhone SE Display Specifications

The iPhone SE 2nd and 3rd generation share a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with 750 x 1334 native resolution at 326 ppi. The aspect ratio is 16:9, the same ratio as old iPhones (iPhone 6/7/8) and a hold-over from the pre-notch era.

This is actually convenient for wallpapers: any image at 16:9 aspect ratio (1920 x 1080, 1280 x 720, etc.) fits the iPhone SE shape without crop adjustment. Just resize to 750 x 1334 or any 16:9 multiple. The SE has no notch and no Dynamic Island, so the entire 750 x 1334 canvas is visible (minus the home indicator on iOS 15+).

Photos to Avoid as SE Wallpapers

The iPhone SE's older 4.7-inch screen makes some photo categories work poorly as wallpapers:

Large group photos: faces become tiny at this resolution. Group photos work better on bigger Pro Max screens.

Landscape panoramas: a 1:1 or 16:9 portrait crop is required, which crops most of a panorama away. If you must use a panorama, crop to the central section.

Fine-detail textures (lace, embroidery, intricate patterns): the 326 ppi pixel density is fine but lower than the 460 ppi Super Retina XDR on Pro models. Fine details that look sharp on a Pro Max can look mushy on an SE.

What works well: solid colors with simple geometric shapes, single-subject portraits with bokeh backgrounds, abstract gradients, and high-contrast minimal designs.
